2011 Lesson Program

Draper Valley Golf Club introduces a variety of new instruction programs this coming season.  Adam Nelson, an Authorized Instructor of The Golfing Machine, has recently accepted the position of Head Golf Professional and is excited to begin working with the players of Draper Valley Golf Club.  Adam will offer a wide variety of lesson programs and clinics that will meet the needs of any level golfer.  Whether you are a beginning golfer or a scratch player, DVGC has instruction curriculum tailored to fit your individual needs.

Teaching Philosophy

Whether it's through the Internet, watching The Golf Channel or reading the latest book on the golf swing, many players are bombarded with information (and misinformation) about the golf swing.  As a golfer, you need the most reliable, accurate and fact-based information available to improve your golf game – but where can you find it?

Since 1969 Homer Kelley's “The Golfing Machine” textbook has provided this fact-based approach to teaching the golf stroke.  The text relies on science – simple geometry and basic physics – to provide a standard method of teaching golf that is consistent, reliable and most importantly, based on fact.

When you work with Adam Nelson at Draper Valley Golf Club, you are learning from someone who can combine a very sophisticated understanding of the complexities of the golf swing, with a teaching style and communication skills that will allow you to understand, easily and clearly, how you can consistently hit golf shots that are straight and true.

About Adam

Adam has been actively involved with sports for the majority of his life.  About 15 years ago he was introduced to the game of golf by his grandfather and has been hooked ever since.  When Adam was 15 years old he began working for Vic Sorrell, P.G.A., G.S.E.B. at Fincastle Country Club.  It was under the tutelage of Sorrell that Adam first developed his passion for teaching the game of golf.

While working for Sorrell, Adam’s golf game improved exponentially, which led to a scholarship to play golf at Bluefield College.  In college, he received First Team All-Conference honors three years in a row, and First Team All-Region honors his sophomore and senior seasons.

After college, Adam continued his education at Liberty University, where he received a Master’s of Arts in Counseling.  Recently, Adam joined the ranks of some the nation’s top instructors by becoming an Authorized Instructor (Golf Stroke Engineer Bachelor) of The Golfing Machine.  Adam’s ability to understand and engineer a golf stroke that is custom designed to each individual, as well as being an Authorized Ping Club-fitter, allows him to make each lesson experience tailored to fit the individual in front of him.

Ping Club-Fitting

Because golfers come in all shapes and sizes, with different swings, it stands to reason that all golfers should be custom-fit for their golf clubs. The staff at Draper Valley Golf Club chose Ping because they are the pace-setters of club-fitting in the industry. Ping also certifies every Professional by making them pass an examination that confirms they know how to fit golf clubs properly.

The following is an excerpt about the company's dedication to club-fitting from Ping's website:

Karsten began work on his famous PING Color Code System to bring the benefits of custom fitting to the average golfer. Today, PING is the undisputed fitting leader, with thousands of fitting systems at golf shops and courses around the world, a fleet of fitting vehicles that travel to demo days around the country, and a comprehensive, PGA-certified training program designed to instruct golf professionals to properly fit PING equipment to every golfer's swing.

Regardless of your ability, properly fit clubs can help you hit straighter, more consistent shots.

By matching the proper club specifications to your swing, a club- fitter can help reduce or eliminate undesirable shots patterns, like hooks and slices, allowing you to play closer to your full potential and making the game more enjoyable.

Surprisingly, custom fit PING clubs don't cost any more or take any longer to build. Once an order has been placed through an authorized PING retailer, our streamlined production process allows us to ship your clubs, built to your exact specifications, usually in just 48 hours.

Vector Launch Monitor

AccuSport introduced the revolutionary Vector Launch System to the golf industry in 2003, and rapidly became the leader in launch monitor technology. Vector Launch Systems are in use by nearly every major original equipment manufacturer and thousands of club fitters, retailers and instructors throughout the world.

Trusted and used by golf club and ball manufacturers and research and development labs, AccuSport's Vector Launch System technology measures the exact ball speed, launch angle, back spin, side spin and side angle of every shot.

Vector continues to be used daily to deliver critical club and ball performance information to help drive club sales and provide game improvement information to golfers of all skill levels.

V1 Video Analysis

Video Analysis allows the student and teacher to visually detect strengths and weaknesses in the player’s motion, as well as, compare their motions to some of the game’s great players.  It also gives the instructor a comprehensive set of drawing tools to mark, measure, and monitor progress of the student.
